Rick and Morty season 5: everything you need to know
Every time a new season of Rick and Morty wraps up no matter how long it takes it always feels like it came and went way too soon.
Now that season 4 was concluded on such an incredible note everyone is probably wondering when is season 5 coming out and will it take another three years.
Rick and Morty has been famous at this point for long hiatuses. Notoriously the gaps between seasons 2 & 3, and 3 & 4. There was a lot going on behind the scenes that contributed to this.
At one point they weren't even picked up for the next season due to some behind the scenes arguments.
Luckily, we got Rick & Morty back in the production in 2018 when the series was greenlit for a massive order of 70 episodes. The first ten of which made up the 4th season.
Of course, Rick and Morty at this point is a huge show. Adult Swim probably wanted as many episodes as they could get and network deals like this take forever to figure out.
Rick and Morty Season 5 Release Date
There has been no official announcement yet, but Rick and Morty writers, Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland have been vocal that the breaks between seasons will never be this long again and starting with season 4 forward they would deliver sooner than you might expect.
Rick And Morty Season 5: What is it going to be about? FIRST LOOK
Adult Swim has unveiled a first look at Rick and Morty Season 5. Animation on the brief scene isn’t finished, but the two-minute clip is quite fun.
It's safe to say that the 'Interdimensional Cable' format will probably make a return sometime soon.
Then there's the story of Evil Morty to consider as well. Without breaking the time travel rule that Rick himself may have broken in Season 4, it's hard to say exactly what will happen in season five just yet.
Back in May 2019, Harmon hinted at some potential season five ideas on Instagram with the following caption: "The amount of season five ideas Rob Schrab can come up with in a day is just awe inspiring from a certain distance at which I should have stayed."
Here are just a few of the potential stories Harmon touched upon in his post:
- Jerry gets a pinecone in his butt
- The people’s (basketball) court
- Morty buys a boat
- Jerry makes a log cabin w/ hair
- Artificial person w/ real leg
- Planet powered by chips + salsa
- Anal beads
The writers were probably just having a laugh with most of these, however, we would definitely love to see any of those scenarios.
There is no word yet on a release date for Rick and Morty season 5. It’s heartening to know at least that the wait likely won’t come anywhere near matching the delay between seasons 3 and 4. All in all, the show still has 60 episodes remaining in its 70-episode order from Adult Swim.
